“A negative mind will never give you a positive life.”
Think about the power of this statement for a moment.
Positive thinking is one of the toughest self development projects of our lives. So much of our attitude and mood reflects what is happening around us. This may include other people’s attitudes, the weather, the traffic that day, whether you turned on the news, and so much more.

The majority of people you run into in this lifetime do not enjoy the doom and gloom attitude, so why is it so easy to fall into this rut?
It’s the energy coming off of that person or situation. As human beings we pick up the underlying meaning of words and actions.
Do you smile while giving a compliment? How do you receive compliments? Graciously, or do you shrug them off? How about eye contact? What do you perceive as the underlying feeling or energy under other people words and actions?
We can’t fix others, but we can work on our own action and reaction to the energy coming at us.
Prepare yourself ~ Take some time when waking up in the morning to check in with yourself. How are you feeling? What are some actions to you can take to insure those feelings turn positive for the day?
- Mediate ~ start with 10 minutes at a time
- Write in your journal
- Plan out your day while leaving room for unexpected events
- Yoga or light stretching to get the energy flowing
- Repeat your daily mantra(s)
Dress to Impress (Yourself) ~ Keep only amazing outfits and shoes in your clothing rotation. That faded, stretched out t-shirt from your last year of college may be comfortable for lounging around home, but face it, that t-shirt does not bring the positive energy with you in your day.
If you need proof this works, just look at young children. One morning, my two year-old daughter was having a difficult time waking up. I asked if she would like to wear a dress. Once that dress was on, she became a totally different little girl. Instead of crying, she was smiling, twirling around, and checking herself out in the mirror.
When you dress well, you feel well. Own it, girl!
Mantras and music ~ Find the mantra that fits you on that day.
Sitting in horrible traffic on the 405 in Los Angeles to and from the office, will dampen anyone’s spirits. Daily, I make the choice to listen to positive podcasts and ebooks rather than sit and get frustrated with other drivers. When I need extra oomph, I turn up my music and sing along like the rock star I know I truly am.
Frustration with others will change nothing other than your own mood and attitude.
Repeating mantras are very helpful whether standing in front of the mirror before leaving home or while out and about.
Simple but effective phrases to repeat to yourself:
- I’ve got this!
- This will not get me down!
- I bring my own positivity to the day.
- I am enough.
Smile ~ We heard this so many times before. SMILE. Bringing a smile to your own lips will begin to change your attitude. No only will it change your own attitude, it will shift the energy around you helping to shift the current mood towards a positive direction.
Posture ~Roll your shoulders back, lift your head up high, and make eye contact. Such subtle movements will make a profound impact on your energy and the energy surrounding you.
Carry the energy through your day that you want to experience and spread to others. Obviously, many times this is easier said than done, but with practice and repetition, you will make the world around you better one smile at a time.
