Top 10 Essential Oils to Brighten Your Spring

As the days begin to lengthen, we grow even more weary of the long nights yet are thrilled for the longer days. Now is the time to rejuvenate your essential oil collection to infuse some amazing spring scents into your daily routine to uplift and balance .

Freshen up your home, auto, office, or even as an essential oil perfume blend with these 10 of my favorite scents reminiscent of springtime.

Geranium Essential Oil

Dating back to the ancient Egyptians, geranium has been used as part of the daily beauty care for radiant and youthful skin. This is a lightly sweet-smelling essential oil widely renowned for nontoxic and non skin irritating.

More recently, this essential oil has been used for:

  • Treating acne and skin disorders
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Lessens fatigue
  • Improves mood
  • Eases anxiety
  • Balances hormones

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is one of the most versatile of all essential oils. Widely known for its relaxing effects on the body, lavender also has the fewest skin reactions of essential oils.

Lavender is useful for:

  • Promotes feelings of calm
  • Aids with sleep
  • Antiseptic properties
  • Treats skin disorders such as Eczema and Dermatitis
  • Relieves symptoms of motion sickness
  • Eliminates dandruff
  • Reduces signs of cold sores

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree essential oil, derived from the leaves of the tea tree plant native to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia is a multi-use wonder.

Tea tree is useful as:

  • Sanitizer
  • Repels insects
  • Antiseptic
  • Speeds wound healing
  • Fights acne
  • Treats nail fungus
  • Mouthwash
  • Soothes skin inflammation
  • Controls dandruff
  • Relieves Psoriasis

Soft Rain Blend

  • 3 drops Bergamot
  • 2 drops Ylang Ylang
  • 2 drops Vetiver

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood essential oil has a pleasing scent with its sweet and woodsy aroma.

Cedarwood has been to treat many ailments:

  • Helps with Insomnia

Chamomile Essential Oil

Widely enjoyed as a tea to soothe and calm, chamomile may also be distilled into an essential oil for daily use.

Chamomile is a versatile herb and oil with numerous benefits:

  • Aids with digestion and stomach issues such as indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, and excess gas
  • Promotes skin health with anti-aging properties
  • Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Contains antioxidants
  • Promotes relaxation and calm

Citrus Essential Oils

**You will want to use caution with citrus essential oils as they have been widely considered a photosensitive oil meaning you should use extreme care with the sun using this oil. Dilute with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil before applying to skin and either avoid the sun or use sunscreen and reapply often.


Fresh Flower Blend

  • 3 drops lavender
  • 3 drops lemon
  • 3 drops geranium

Tangerine Essential Oil

Zesty and sweet tangerine is part of the citrus family. The essential oil is derived from cold-pressing the rind of the fruit. As with most citrus essential oils, tangerine has numerous benefits but is also considered a photosensitive oil meaning you should use extreme care with the sun using this oil. Dilute with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil before applying to skin.

Benefits of using tangerine essential oil:

  • Relieves muscle spasms
  • Eases anxiety, depression, and other mild mood disorders
  • Promotes healthy sleep
  • Fights cellulite when applied topically
  • Speeds up metabolism when taken internally

Bergamot Essential Oil

Another fabulous essential oil to include in your aromatherapy diffuser is bergamot. This citrus scent has a lovely floral under scent to it. Those who enjoy Earl Grey tea will be very familiar with this scent as bergamot is used to flavor that tea.

Aside from its lovely scent, bergamot may help with:

  • Easing anxiety and depression
  • Calming skin disorders such as acne and oily skin
  • Lowering blood sugar levels
  • Eliminating odors
  • Killing germs
  • Soothing muscle spasms

Lemon Essential Oil

With its tangy scent, lemon is a wonderful scent associated with the warming weather. When used in aromatherapy, lemon has been shown to improve mood and anxiety.

Lime Essential Oil

One of my favorite scents to aid in improving my mood, grapefruit essential oil also has numerous health benefits.

Some benefits of grapefruit essential oil:

  • Reduces appetite and may aid in weight loss
  • Antibacterial and Antimicrobial Effects
  • Reduces stress
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Treats acne

Citrus Circle Blend

  • 3 drops Grapefruit
  • 3 drops Sweet Orange
  • 3 drops Bergamot

Final Thoughts

I am sure to be a little partial as spring is my favorite of the seasons, yet we must all agree that adding a few new scents to our aromatherapy essential oil arsenal will cheer  anyone up.

Safety Tips

  • Keep away from children and pets
  • Do not get near eyes
  • Do not drip directly into ears
  • Discuss essential oils with your doctor if you:
    • are pregnant
    • have epilepsy, seizures or asthma
    • have a skin condition
  • Do not diffuse around infants younger than six months old
  • Be sure that pets have the ability to leave the room where the diffuser is in use.
  • I do not recommend diffusing citrus essential oils around pets.

    I love this post! I think it’d be really cool if you made a post on how to use these. I’m super interested in oils that help with my skin, that helps me relax or be energized. I know though that generally oils directly on the skin could be too irritating.

    I LOVE my grapefuit essential oil – I put a few drops on my diffuser bracelet. Do you use a car diffuser? I’ve been searching for one and can’t find one that seems to have fantastic reviews!
