Ostara and Spring Celebrations and Renewal

Onward we go with the shifting of the wheel of the year and just like that, we are at Ostara or what we love to call, Spring.

With spring being a time of planting, we must also make this a time of raising our collective vibration, focusing our intentions for the coming season of new beginnings and renewal, and beginning our manifesting of the upcoming season.

“”Is the spring coming?” He said. What is it like?… “It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”” ~ Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden

Ostara, or Eostra, is an Anglo-Saxon goddess who represents dawn. As a spring goddess she oversees the budding plants and burgeoning fertility of the earth. The Horned God, sometimes envisioned as the god Pan, symbolizes the festive enjoyment of nature through hunting and dancing. Huffington Post

To celebrate Ostara is to celebrate spring and to give thanks for fertility, rebirth, new beginnings, and growth.

    1. Plant Seeds Ostara celebrates the beginning of a new life and growth
    1. Paint eggs. Eggs represent fertility. Painting eggs is traditional for both Ostara and Easter.
    1. Go for a walk in the trees paying attention to new life.
    1. Start something new you would like to see grow through the next season.
  1. Hide some eggs but don’t forget where you put them!

If you are looking for something crafty to celebrate:

Make an Ostara Tree:

You will need:

  • Several lightweight branches picked up from the ground rather than taken from a tree
  • Some florist’s foam
  • A flowerpot or vase
  • Acrylic paints
  • Spanish moss
  • Small spring decorations

Start by painting the pot or vase with spring symbols and colors. Add florist’s form to your vase and place the branches in the foam. Use the Spanish moss to cover the florist’s foam in the top of the vase. You may choose to place your tree on your alter or use it as a tabletop decoration.

Thank you for this information. I learned something about spring and had some aha moments because I never thought further than “it’s spring”. The crystals a big for me and I will be looking into them now.

I’ve never heard of Ostara, much less of celebrating spring, which made this a fun post to read. I love that you mentioned the different types of oil.

Thanks so much for defining the meaning of the little things like colors and scents. It will definitely help towards mindfulness and being in a growth mindset for spring.
